Operation Teal Pumpkin 2015!

I have a confession.... Up until just a few years ago (before Georgia was diagnosed with food allergies), we were one of the houses on the block handing out dairy and nut laced candies to all the children of the neighborhood.  I never gave it a second thought.  When it was time to shop for Halloween candy, I bought items that Nick and I liked knowing that the leftovers would be inhaled as soon as the porch lights went dark on Halloween night.

These days, we try to offer safer treats to distribute on Halloween and at the least, avoid candy that contain Georgia's big allergens (dairy and nuts).  It's definitely not easy to find candy/treats without chocolate or nuts, especially this time of year.  It's even harder to find items that aren't cross-contaminated.  Halloween isn't always the most fun holiday for kids who have food allergies, but we try too make the best of it.  This year, I've got something even better.... Enjoy Life cookies!

A few weeks back, Enjoy Life Foods reached out to offer us some treats to distribute on Halloween in honor of FARE's Teal Pumpkin Project.  FARE first launched the teal pumpkin project in 2014 to help raise awareness of food allergies and promote inclusion for all trick-of-treaters!  How amazing is that?!?!?!  We already had big plans to paint a teal pumpkin at our house and to offer some stickers/pencils as a non-food option to any little friends who find their way to our neighborhood on Halloween night.  Now, we've got some crunchy cookies to add to the mix too!

G was pretty excited to give out cookies...

If you'd like to participate in the Teal Pumpkin Project, but not sure what to get in terms of food, I've seen some great ideas online about non-food items that you could distribute:

We're planning to offer some stickers/pencils to our crew (note the prices - these are not expensive ideas and much cheaper than the giant bags of candy that I bought)...

This weekend, Georgia painted her own teal pumpkin...

We had no sooner put it on display on the front steps when a special package arrived from Enjoy Life...

As always, I'm blown away by Enjoy Life's generosity and continued support for food allergy families.  I can't wait to share these treats with our friends, family and neighbors.  Did I mention they have a coupon on the back of them too????

Not only did we get cookies to share, but Enjoy Life also sent along this cute little teal pumpkin...

If you're in the neighborhood, be sure to stop by our house to grab a special treat.  If you're not local and would like to try a cookie or two, let me know and I'd be happy to send them along!

If you do participate in the teal pumpkin project, please send your photos my way!  I'd love to see how our family and friends are participating!!
